The Protect Green Environment Organization (PGEO) has a rich and transformative history that dates back to 2013. It was initially established as a Civil Society Organization (CSO) under the name of BAWSO. During this period, BAWSO worked diligently with donors such as the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and the US Embassy, focusing its efforts on human rights, women's rights, and addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV). However, between 2022 and 2023, CSOs faced numerous challenges due to heightened restrictions. Recognizing the need to adapt and continue their mission, the board of BAWSO directorate made the strategic decision to transition from a CSO to a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), thus giving birth to the Protect Green Environment Organization (PGEO). Fast forward to mid-2021, PGEO was re-established by a group of professional Afghan women who were seasoned development practitioners from various sectors. This re-establishment came in response to the collapse of the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the subsequent deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
